Monterey Country Club Launches Pink Week with Pink Walk to Support Cancer Survivors
The 16th annual Pink Week at the Monterey Country Club kicked off today with a heartfelt Pink Walk, marking the start of several days filled with activities like tennis, pickleball, bocce ball, and golf on Monday. The event’s primary goal is to support the Desert Cancer Foundation, honoring those who have battled cancer, those who have lost their lives to the disease, and current survivors.
Participants and supporters gathered early in the day to take part in the walk, with community members and guests coming together to show their support. “It truly kicks off the heart and soul of Pink Week,” an organizer shared, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and supporting cancer survivors and those affected by cancer.

Today’s high reached 86°F, slightly above the average of 82°F, with overnight temperatures settling around a comfortable 61°F in Palm Springs. Winds of up to 20 mph are forecasted for Whitewater and Desert Hot Springs on Saturday, with gusts reaching the 30 mph range. However, calmer conditions are expected on Sunday and Monday.
Looking ahead, a high-pressure system currently near Hawaii is expected to move closer by Monday, bringing significantly higher temperatures to Southern California. Forecasts predict highs between 94°F and 98°F, with a record-tying high of 97°F possible on Tuesday, nearly matching the 1988 record of 100°F. Fortunately, temperatures are expected to return to the 80s by next Thursday.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike.
