Palm Springs Weather: Cool Relief Today Before a Steady Warm-Up into Next Week
Palm Springs is enjoying a cooler day today, with a high of 73°F—well below the typical 84°F. The weather forecast paints a picture of clear, crisp conditions, with plenty of sunshine over the valley and mountain clouds outlining the perimeter. Although temperatures dropped below normal yesterday, today’s mix of sunshine and partly cloudy skies creates a pleasant, albeit cooler, atmosphere.
Over the past few days, gusty west winds have swept through the region; however, today the Coachella Valley sees only light winds under 10 mph. A coastal eddy spinning offshore is responsible for bringing mid-level moisture, which contributes to partly cloudy conditions, especially to the west. As the afternoon progresses, some very light showers might occur, but these will be minimal and are expected to dissipate by early evening.
As the day turns into night, clear skies will allow temperatures to fall into the lower 50s, providing a cool respite. Looking ahead, a significant wind shift from the west to the north is forecast for tomorrow, ushering in drier air that will gradually warm the region. Palm Springs is predicted to reach the low to middle 80s by tomorrow, with other nearby areas like Palm Desert and Joshua Tree experiencing similar conditions.
The warming trend continues through the weekend with a forecast of mid-80s on Saturday. However, the real change is on the horizon as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Southwest. Next week, this system is expected to push temperatures into the upper 90s and low 100s. Specifically, forecasts indicate that Palm Springs could hit around 102°F on Thursday, with Palm Desert and La Quinta experiencing comparable highs.
In summary, while today's cool and partly cloudy conditions offer a welcome break, residents should prepare for a gradual yet significant warming trend. With temperatures climbing steadily from the low 70s today to near-record highs by mid-next week, it's a perfect time to enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts before the heat takes over.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
