Weekend Workout: Stretch Training with Dumbbells
Welcome to Weekend Workout on NBC Palm Springs, where fitness expert David Lyons is guiding viewers through stretch training exercises designed to build strength and flexibility.
Unlike the usual resistance band methods, this week’s routine uses dumbbells. Lyons notes that if dumbbells aren’t available, water bottles, cans, or even just body weight can be used as substitutes.
For day one of stretch training, Charlene demonstrates three targeted exercises:
• Chest – A reverse fly motion, stretching the chest muscles for four seconds before returning to the front in a hugging motion.
• Back – A forward-tilted stretch, holding the dumbbells downward for four seconds before pulling elbows back and squeezing the shoulder blades.
• Shoulders – A front raise with a twist, holding the dumbbells parallel to the floor, then pulling them back for a four-second stretch.
Each exercise emphasizes slow, controlled movement, with a focus on stretching the muscles while maintaining proper form.
Lyons reminds viewers to stay hydrated during their workouts, especially in the desert heat. He adds that this is just the first day of stretch training, with future sessions focusing on other areas, including legs.

UPDATE: The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that one person has died and another two were injured after a home explosion on Ocotillo Rd in Twentynine Palms. Security camera video from a nearby neighbor captured the dramatic blast around 8:28 p.m., followed by a fire that brought a massive emergency response from fire and law enforcement agencies across the Morongo Basin. The burning structure has been confirmed as a residence at 6427 Ocotillo Ave. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail team is conducting the investigation.
