Cathedral City Police Sting Leads to Seven Arrests for Selling Tobacco to Minors
Seven people were arrested this week in Cathedral City during a sting operation targeting the illegal sale of tobacco products to minors.
The operation, conducted by the Cathedral City Police Department, focused on 36 local tobacco retailers. A police employee under the age of 21 was used as a decoy to test whether store clerks would illegally sell products to someone below the legal age.
According to authorities, five of the seven products sold during the operation were flavored nicotine vapes—products that are banned under California law due to their appeal to younger users.
The arrests serve as a warning to retailers across the Coachella Valley: law enforcement is actively cracking down on sales to minors, especially when it comes to flavored tobacco and vape products.
Police are urging anyone with information about the illegal sale of tobacco or nicotine products to minors to contact the Cathedral City Police Department.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
