The Hidden Source of Chronic Pain: Why Your Brain May Hold the Key to Relief
More than 51 million Americans live with chronic pain. Over the past two decades, opioid prescriptions became a go-to solution, but also led to widespread misuse.
Now, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon at Grady Memorial Hospital, is challenging how we think about pain itself. In an interview, he reveals why the pain you're feeling may not be coming from where you think it is.
"All pain occurs in the brain," Dr. Gupta explains. "If your brain doesn't decide you have pain, then you don't have pain."
Dr. Gupta discusses how the brain can create pain where it shouldn't exist—and more importantly, how understanding this connection could unlock new approaches to finding relief that don't rely on prescription medications.
Watch the full interview with Dr. Sanjay Gupta in the accompanying Health Minute segment to learn more about this groundbreaking approach to chronic pain management.
